Building Confidence Through Math and Science

Meet Anthony Chatman

I'm a research scientist with over five years of experience in the field, including co-authoring published scientific research. Math and science aren't just my career — they're subjects I genuinely love, and they're part of my everyday life.

Where my passion for teaching began

My path into tutoring started at George Mason University, my alma mater, where I served as a math and science tutor for the Early Identification Program. The program supports first-generation students from middle school all the way through high school, and students who complete it earn automatic admission to George Mason University.

It was a program I deeply believed in. Tutoring those students through both the school year and the summer became one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

What I've seen tutoring do

I watched students who were once afraid to ask a single question begin to open up, work through the areas they struggled with, and slowly build their confidence. Many of them went on to thrive in class and become leaders among their peers. Watching that growth is something I'll never forget.

Why I started Chatman Education Services

That experience is exactly why I started this. I want to bring that same encouragement and joy of learning to students right here in our community. There's nothing better than seeing a student finally grasp something that once felt impossible — or pull up a grade in a class that used to frustrate them.

How I work

I come from a family of educators, so I know firsthand how much work teachers pour into helping students succeed. My role isn't to replace the teacher — it's to be a bridge between the student, the teacher, and the parent.

Tutoring works best when everyone is on the same team. I keep parents in the loop, and whenever possible I stay connected with the student's teacher so my support lines up with what they're learning in class.

Sessions that don't drag. I keep every session active. Instead of lecturing for an hour straight, I break each one into short, focused segments — explain a concept, have the student work through it, then check that it clicked before moving on. Mixing explanation, hands-on practice, and small wins keeps students engaged and helps the material actually stick, so the time feels productive instead of painful.

My promise to your student

Build real confidence, deepen their understanding, and improve their grades in the subjects we work on together. I've never been afraid of hard work, and I'll do everything I can to help your student fall in love with learning and succeed in math and science.

If that's the kind of support you want for your student, I'd love to help — my Summer Academy is free, and you can reserve a spot below.
